Canaest has a network of internal and external collaborators from different countries and diverse experience and academic formation.

The team has a capacity of working in Spanish, French, English and Portuguese.



Javier Macías, founder and administrator of Canaest S.L in 1993, he is an economist with more that 20 years of experience in fisheries and aquaculture. He has participated in numerous projects related to the social and economic aspects of these activities in the Canary Islands, Europe, Africa, America and Pacific countries.

Montserrat Gimeno Ortiz has a degree in Marine Sciences with over 15 years of experience in spatial planning instruments of fisheries, aquaculture and marine natural resources. She has participated as responsible in the development of various planning instruments in the Canaries and Cape Verde. She has also worked in scientific and local development projects related to the management of fisheries resources.

Cheikh Abdellahi Ould INEJIH is a fisheries biologist with over 20 years of experience in data collection and stock assessment of fisheries resources. He has participated in the development of several fisheries management plans.

Julio Lopez

Julio López Alvarado is a PhD in fisheries (aquaculture specialty) by the University of Kagoshima (Japan). He also holds a high degree in marine sciences by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain), a Master in aquaculture at the University of Stirling (United Kingdom), a BSc in economics and business administration from the University of London (United Kingdom) and a Master in sustainability by the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (Spain). His professional experience includes nutritional research in animal feeds (Ewos Ltd, Scotland, and Aller Aqua GmbH, Germany) and research, direction and production at hatcheries and marine fish farms in Spain.


Traoré Noumuké is an economist from Burkina Faso with more than 30 years of experience in management of development projects, mainly for the African Bank of Development. He has working experience in more than 15 african countries as team leader and senior expert and has participated as a consultant in projects for FAO, FIDA, CIDA, UNESCO, etc.


Carlos Montero Castaño, marine biologist, expert in fisheries development and environmental management. Responsible for international projects as the following up of Spanish fisheries in Western Atlantic and other fishing, aquaculture and scientific cooperation programs, in African countries and Latin America , Senegal, Guinea, Bissau and Peru. With experiences in the elaboration and evaluation of projects and development programs


Beatriz Gómez, jurist specialized in marine environment and fisheries legislation. With specific knowledge in Marine Protected Areas and international politics of biodiversity, she has also participated in several projects promoting the fishing private sector, commercialisation and consumption of fisheries products and infrastructures management studies in Western Africa.
